It looks simple, doesn't it? Don't let that fool you! Packed into this little box is a punch you won't soon forget when tackling hills in your Jacobs-endowed Jeep.
Jacobs Electronics introduces the Uphill Power Module, or UPM for short. The UPM is designed to detect a vehicle's tilt or angle, and provide up to a 300% boost in power to the Pro Street Energy Pak, resulting in a significantly better throttle response, and eliminating plug fouling caused by extreme angles.
Installation: 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9L
Finding a suitable mounting location on our 1998 ZJ 5.9L test vehicle was the hardest part of the entire installation. Luckily, we have a K&N FIPK installed, and the area usually reserved solely for the K&N filter provided adequate space for installing both the Pro-Street Ultra Team Kit and the Uphill Power Module.
Test the length of your wiring before hard-mounting any of the components - make sure all parts can reach each other AND the vehicle's coil. Also note that the UPM (Uphill Power Module) should be adjusted while the Jeep is parked on a flat surface. This is important because you want the module to kick in at the right angle when tackling hills, on or off road.
All of Jacobs kits are easy to install, even for novice mechanics - most only require 3 or 4 wires to hook up (not counting new plug wires).
The results were amazing! You can feel the power increase as your vehicle's incline increases. Jacobs definitely knows how to make a good thing better!
The reasons for these dramatic improvements are no secret: Jacobs Electronics uses digital microprocessors and patented technology to adjust spark output on a cylinder-by-cylinder basis, and according to engine condition. That means the kit maximizes fuel burn efficiency, and increases spark intensity when accelerating or at low RPMs (where the engine works hardest).
Spark is also increased – up to 300 percent – when the Uphill Power Module detects a change in the vehicle’s angle from a level ride. The module switches on to boost power and throttle response when you climb steep inclines, hills or grades, even in loose, rocky terrain. This extra spark output can also prevent spark plug fouling caused when oil or gas “floods” into combustion chambers during extreme angles. Plus, an exclusive electronic dampening program prevents rough roads or vibrations from falsely activating the unit.
The Ultra Team system also includes a driver-adjustable “rev-limiter” to prevent engine damage caused by a missed shift or poor traction (like mud, sand or ice patches), and an anti-theft feature that causes the engine to shut down if the vehicle is stolen.
Best of all, there are no wires to cut because the Jacobs’ patented “plug-in-and-play” system uses OEM style connectors or Jacobs’ Secondary Trigger, and all components are water-, heat- and vibration-proof.
The Off-Road Edition Ultra Team is just one of the many ignition upgrade systems from Jacobs Electronics, a manufacturer of high-performance products for more than 25 years.
