Mike Leraas's 1995 Wrangler
Mike's Jeep is a 1995 YJ, and by no means is a "Yuppie Jeep." The Jeep started
out with humble beginnings when it was purchased new in 1995, but has undergone
many transformations to what it is today. The motor is a stock in-line 4.0
six with a Borla header and free-flowing exhaust which has served him well.
The transfer case has been shortened with a Rubicon Express short-shaft kit and
a CV-style driveshaft. It has Dick Cepek C1000 lights to guide the way
at night with 210-watts apiece, along with rock lights on the underside.
Up front is a Ramsey 8000lb. winch along all the neccessary recovery
tools in the rear of the Jeep; snatch block, Hi-Lift jack, ropes and chains.
The YJ's suspension is Explorer ProComp's Coil-Conversion system, which put the Jeep 6-inches
higher into the air, and along with the 3-inch Trailmaster body lift, the YJ is soon be home to
a set of 35-inch BFG MT's, but for now it only runs on a set of 33-inch BFG AT's.
The inner tub has been given two coats of Duraback bedliner, and once a year the
underside is recoated with Ziebart, which is his key to keeping the rust away.
He has roamed the Sand Dunes of Silver Lake, MI; Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky;
Haspin Trails in Indiana; and in and around the Mountains of Colorado.
"As one can tell, the Jeep is well traveled since 1995 I've put 115,000 miles on the Jeep
and it still runs strong." - Mike Future modifications: The Super35 kit for the rear end,
and Mike thinks he just blew his engine, so a 350 Chevy fuel-injected motor with a 700R4
automatic swap is in the works.
