Trevor Batten's 1983 Cherokee FSJ

Trevor Batten's 1983 Cherokee FSJ "The Truck"

Trevor's Cherokee Australian FSJ "The Truck" has a 258 motor, T5, NP208 T-case and is fitted with: Jacobs Ignition, extractors, 100 litre water tank with pump, heat exchanger for hot shower, 270 litre fuel tank, 3 inch lift, spare wheel carrier, Rancho RS9000 shocks, fridge for the beer, chuck wagon and is loaded with the tent and all other necessary 4 wheeling needs all the time just waiting to go.

"As The Truck has only done 250,000 miles, my wife and I are quite confident to use it for these major treks into the Australian wilderness. Many of these areas always break something and stretch most vehicles to the limit by rattling them to pieces."

"The Truck gets many a chuckle from the Toyota/Nissan owners as it was the last model sold in Australia until the Jeep brand was re-launched some 13 years later - so it is fairly rare!! BUT it never lets us down and by the end of these excursions they begin to love it (my wallet usually ends up with more money left!). My wife and I love The Truck."

Robin Johnson's 1978 SJ Cherokee Robin Johnson's 1978 SJ Cherokee Robin Johnson's 1978 SJ Cherokee

Robin Johnson's 1978 SJ Cherokee "Red Dwarf"

Robin's SJ Cherokee "Red Dwarf" has a 360 ci V8 with a TH400 transmission and Quadratrac transfer case. I have Red Dwarf riding on four BFGoodrich 31X10.50X15 ATs (soon to be mud terrain). I bought her for around 1500 dollars in 2000 and she was in very neglected shape. All of the fluids had to be changed, the timing chain cover was cracked and was replaced, as was the waterpump, fuel lines, both sender units in both petrol tanks, and the electrical system was in shambles. Somebody removed the manual emergency drive cables and knob for the Quadratrac too! I've put about 2000 dollars back into her so far, and there's still a lot more that has to be done.

I've added a CB radio with dual aerials, a 200 Watt Sony car stereo, a compass, GPS Navigation, and a clinometer so far.

Soon in the future projects include completely new leaf springs, a four inch suspension lift, new shocks, obviously, a new paint job, and re-assmebly of the cruise control. I am also planning to get a safari roof rack to repace the flimsy aluminium one that was stock, and obtain an Australian roo-bar for the front bumper.

Alan Taylor's 1978 Cherokee Chief

This picture was taken going through the "Golden Crack", on the Golden Spike Trail in Moab.

Alan's SJ hass an AMC 360 V8 with 3" exhaust, TH 400 w/Quadratrac, a spring over lift with relocated shock mounts and Pro Comp shocks, Dana 44's front and rear with a locker in back and 35's (also AC, tilt and cruise!). It flexes like crazy, and has been all over Moab and the Rockies. His 6-year old son named it "Big Blue" and it stuck. A lot more mods are in the works since this pic.

Jeremy and Shane Tuckers' 1972 Wagoneer

Jeremy and Shane have a spring-over suspension, trimmed the fenders a little, added some 33x12.50's on 15x8 black steelies, and a lincoln-locked front Dana 30. The stock Dana 44 still resides in the rear and both axles sport 3.31 gears. Power still comes from the stock 360, goes through a TH-400 auto and Dana 20 transfer case. They plan to relocate the rear springs and change to longer Chevy rear packs with a buggy leaf.

They also have stock Warn premium turn-in hubs - no Quadra-Trac here!
