I live in Cincinnati and I am interested in meeting some new people to go offroading with, especially any females. I am interested in installing a Chevy 350. Right now I just have a 6" lift with 33" mud tires, 130-watt KC lights and a CB.

How can I only score a 68? I agree that an attack like this on my Jeep is uncalled for. My jeep is always used for its purpose, unlike many of the tricked out jeeps running around town that I never, ever see muddy. I think a big kicker is in order for anyone who regularly gets their jeep off road, especially if they don't have all the mods. Let's not segregate ourselves; we're all Jeepers! You TJ's get your hands out of your pants and in the air!

First Jeep was '72 CJ5. I've noticed TJ drivers don't wave much; neither do the girls and all the other people who buy Jeeps just to be cool. They are annoying.

Some of the readers have found the same thing. That the scoring is some-what off. I went through and choose everything that would rate the hightest without picking more than 5 items in the multi-fields and still only came up with a score of 160. My Jeep rating is 210 on that scale and it only was 69 on the wave scale. Please review the piont system and get back to us. Thanks.

PS: I do wave at anyone with obvious mods, and anyone driving a Jeep who looks like they need a wave.

We all need to reconsider the fact of what a TRUE Jeep is. Personally, I think YJ's should still be considered Official Jeeps. Not as rugged as a nice CJ, but still rugged as compared to a Ford Exploder/Chevy Blazer. I scored 197 pts. on the Jeep Rater, check out my jeep @ http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/6684/myjeep1.JPG
  • Real Jeeps don't have heater/ac vents (excluding defroster duct, and floor duct)
  • Real Jeeps don't have AIRBAGS!
  • Real Jeeps don't have Hard Top "quick disconnects", and finally...
  • Real Jeeps don't have COIL LINK SUSPENSION!
..although...it is nice...

I think some Jeepers don't know about the wave or choose to ingore me. I learned about it within the first hour I even got into the Jeep, but know I wave and they don't wave back - am I doing something wrong, or are the people not real "Jeep people"? I don't know...

Extremely funny, and true to form for Jeep owners. Only Jeep owners can share it this kind of related humor. Boy it must suck to own a Chevy and not have a great bond with each other like this.

First I believe you need to add something regading tools...do you carry them? How many? Gross weight of tools and spare parts...something like that. I must have 150lbs of tools and parts residing in the many cornners and ammo boxes in my Yeep. Then I took the test!!! Something is wrong here... A 90?! Usually I'm modest, but an attack on my Jeep is an attack on my very reason for living!!! I frankly discount ANY account that rates my YJ as "Pathetic" Since its an ever-changing project, I have no recently scanned photos...I just got last weekend's developed, and I'll get more this weekend. I guess I'm to busy wheeling and fixing the dammage to take the time and get photos scanned.

I'm not stupid, and I know that Its all talk unless I show the goods... You'll be hearing from me.

CJ, SJ, YJ, TJ, WJ, MJ, MB, GPW, M-38, M-38A1, they're all Jeeps. I'm kinda dissapointed in the plastic contured dashes, I'm partial to the round speed-o-meter in the center of the dash. But the quality of the Jeep depends on the driver and rider(s), so let's keep the tops, and wind shields, down and the hands in the air.

Yuppie Jeep owners suck! The TJ's don't even wave unless they carry shovels or are lifted. They suck and should be banned from Jeep ownership. (Possibly they could drive geo metros?)

Liked your page overall, but what is with the unneeded mods? I've gone through more mud with my little CJ2a than many not-so-stock Jeeps, even if they have a tricked V8. Willys Overland Jeep knew what they were doing, no need to screw it up. Also how many points do I get if I'm waving with not only the top off but the windsheild down? With both feet up on the dash, windsheild still down using the throtle adjuster as a cruse? I loved your page and printed it out to show my buddies. Thanks

Once again, great Jeep site! However, I'm really questioning the validity of your Jeep Wave Heirarchy tester. I have been driving my 1978 CJ-5 for ten years now. I bought it in undrivable condition and have since almost fully restored it (entirely on my own) to one of the meanest Jeeps I've personally seen. The engine is a modified AMC 304 V8 with a 4-barrel Edelbrock manifold and carb, MSD ignition, new cam and crankshafts, and only 54,000 original miles since 1978. As for the rest, a 4" rancho lift with 34" Mickey's, front lockers, rebuilt 4 speed tranny, and many more details. Also, believe me, I haven't been at all hesitant to take my CJ EVERYWHERE. I'm from Colorado, and have been everywhere from Moab to Storm Mountain and back. So I'll get to the point. I'm not writing this to pat myself on the back, or because I think there aren't any jeeps out there that blow mine away, I'm sure there are ALOT. I am just pretty dissappointed to find I only score a 154 on your test. Somethin's wrong with that in my opinion, what's it take to get a real score?!?!? Maybe a great idea would be for you to post some pictures and details of the highest scorers around the country, as I am intrigued about what's out there that I haven't already waved to on the trails. As for the rest of the site, keep up the good work, great job describing what the wave's all about!

Great site! Thought I had a pretty good wave system of my own, but you've got it down to an artform! Ever have trouble identifying "Scuds" at night (those @!%* new Wranglers with round headlights)? Have to admit I'm guilty of waving at more than one of them. Hey, for the paint job, how many points for "Primer only, 'cause paint's just not worth the trouble"?

I'm sick and tired of all the damn teenagers that give me weird looks on the trail, with their 1990's Jeeps, I have respect for any Jeep I see on the trails, except people with an attitude, and no guts. If you're going to ride with me, you're going to risk rolling, sinking, or axle snapping. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't drive any 90's Jeep through my trails, they're just too sensitive to those things, I mean I see stock Jeeps pummeling the trails all the time, and then 2 weeks later I drive by their house and see a tow truck and a snapped steering column. With my Jeep, and my friends older Jeeps, we can tackle the toughest of things, I can take 75 degree angles and roar up them, and take 3 foot deep water and not get scaved, this is the way we should all be, and for the love of god, GET THOSE FREAKIN' SUV LEXUSES OFF THE TRAILS!!! It's a great laugh to see a guy in his dress suit driving down the trails watching his GPS system and drinking some Starbucks coffee, what the hell is this??? I love to get lost, it's fun as hell, you don't know where you are, and you know damn well your going to have to ride some new trails =]. Trails are for the toughest bad boys there are, and it should stay that way, let those damn prissy's in there brand new, shiny Jeeps tackle some parking-lot rubble. If you can't answer yes to all of the following questions, STAY OFF THE TRAILS.
  • Body Repair: Sledgehammer/Krylon cans
  • Fuel: As long as it burns
  • Climate control: Cigarette Lighter/Fan-Ice combo
  • Luxury: Headlights

I scored a 318 on your rate page. How 'bout the following additions: Giving points for REMOVING sway bar, points for an NP435 (majorly beefy), mismatch seats/body panels. I once had a golf ball stuck in the cut tread of my 35" mud kings, also had an 8" rock stuck between the skid plate & the t-case. Had to bust it out w/ hammer & chisel!

I just recently bought a '90 YJ and love it!  I passed a fellow YJ just as I was leaving the dealer and initiated the wave.  I wave at all CJ's, YJ's, and TJ's.  These are the essence of the Jeep name.  Very few people I wave to do not return the wave, mostly older women who should have bought the mini van instead.  Anyway, my YJ is stock with the AMC I6 258 (still carburated) but I do have plans.  Not sure of my rating, but probably low since I have only had it for a week.  :)  Happy Trails!

I drive a 95 YJ with front and rear lockers, 4" Rancho lift with RS5000 shocks at every corner, 33x12.50 TSL Thornbirds and it has been more than capable of handleing everything I have thrown at it.  For those people with CJ's who say a YJ is not a real Jeep, remember that next time you get stuck and one offers to help.  I know I have a pulled a CJ or 2 out when they could not do it under their own power.  Also, I must say that while new YJ owners for the most part are whimps who never take take the top off and live with the AC on, some of them are die hard Jeepers, and some of the most loyal Jeepers I have ever met drive YJ's, NOT CJ's, look at me I have gotten my girlfreind driving a '99 Cherokee, my brother drives a '95 Cherokee and my mother drives a '99 Grand Cherokee.  Don't try to tell me we are not Jeep loyalists!  Every one of these vehicles has been up to their axles in mud on more than one occasion, even the Grand Cherokee.  It doubles as a hunting truck for my step-dad when he goes into the backwoods!  Come on, we are all part of a special breed who can tolerate the winters with a soft top or no top (in my case a bikini top).  My top has been in the attic for over a year now. We should all respect each other and their Jeeps UNLESS they are lowered, then we should just run over them and laugh!!!!  Keep up the great site and keep the Jeeps runnin deep!

I enjoyed reading this page - very entertaining.  My girlfriend didn't quite get it, but why would she?  She tries... Anyway, I don't have the time to score myself with all these guidelines, but I consider myself an average Jeeper - '89 Red YJ, American Racing aluminum rims (stock size BFG's), rebuilt the I-6, just rebuilt the carb; building a console with a Solobaric subwoofer (only one!) inside, a homemade hide-a-trunk, and many other new projects.  Keep up the good work!  And I always wave first!

Your form gives too little credit for vehicle type.  I have a fairly manly vehicle (CJ-5 w/ battle scars, swapped-in V-8, locker, big tires, homemade paint job, etc.), but I only received a wave score of 94.  By comparison, my Jeep rating is over 200.  The only thing I can think of to account for this difference is that your program gives too little credit for the type of jeep.  You don't actually think that a battle-hardened CJ should initiate a wave to a Wrangler, do you?

All this is very nice, but the only people who will read this are the owners of Jeeps until the Wrangler. And we all know what it means to be driving a Jeep.

The owners of YJ or TJ or ZJ don't understand what they're driving. They simply consider their cars just cars. I'm 29, my dad is a retired division general of the Italian army, and therefore I've been riding for my entire life on Jeeps. The first ones were your old army Jeeps that you guys left in Italy after the war. Then since I was 18 (and allowed to drive) I've been driving CJ5's. So it's 11 years so far (not so many compared to most of us), but a lot more than the average. The love for these cars (it's not the right word I know) is something that you either have or you don't. Wranglers, Cherokees, Grand Cherokee drivers will never be able to understand it. I feel sorry for them but it's not my business. What instead is my business is the fact that whenever I encounter a Jeep I wave and unless it is a CJ or a pre-CJ (they always return the wave) I feel like an idiot because these people never wave back, sometimes they even stare at me as I was some kind of fool.

Now you guys explain to me why we are supposed to wave to those people. First, they are the ones who should wave first. And then they will never wave back unless that car sits in their garage close to a CJ or a pre-CJ.

I know that I will continue to wave feeling an idiot, but it's fine. Maybe one day (this day will never come and we both know this) these people will understand. All I know right now is that I know what I'm driving and why I'm driving it. Like all of us that love their Jeeps for what they are and what they are able to give us, exactly like army official Ernie Pyle stated many years ago: "faithful as a dog, strong as a mule, and agile as a goat." I apologize if I was a bit harsh but I guess you can understand me. I'll see you at Moab.

Some of you have definitions of the product codes, but those are not the ones used in the company.  The 'official' definitions are:

CJ - every one knows this one
SJ - Senior Jeep
YJ - Yuppie Jeep (Sorry guys)
TJ - True or Total Jeep
WJ - World Jeep
MJ - Didn't have one that I have ever heard.

Can't talk about new programs but haven't heard new definitions yet.

I've driven Jeeps for 20 years and about all that says about me is that I'm old and my back hurts. But I've noticed that folks in them new TJ's seldom wave and almost never if you meet one in a big city. Talking about points, shouldn't I get more for driving 20 miles each way to work and back in 106 degree heat like the past week with no AC and a torn bikini top? And I agree heartely with the writer who suggested more points for having a muddy dog with you. I love this site and I love Jeeps and all you Jeepers. Contact me any time you want to talk Jeeps.

My buddies and I are located in Brunswick, ME, and we wheel all the time.  We run a mixture of highly modified Jeeps to Jeeps with nothing but tires.  Rock climbing has become our passion, but mud is still fun.  All we have to say is that we have the ability to build our dreams, and prove it every day.  Have a good one, and we hope to see ya on the trail one day.

A 41 right now, but tomorrow it will be at least 5 points higher (from getting some long overdue gear). I too have a problem with the wave and younger girls, they just think I'm hitting on them, which has gotten me:
    5 dirty looks,
    3 looks of confusion,
    4 no reactions whatsoever,
1 polite forced wave back and
    1 phone number.
They just don't understand. Don't even bother with Jeeps with anything neon or lowered, it should be a negative 60.  Also, I to disagree of smug YJ's, we're both Wranglers.  You're just as big of yuppies as us so don't give me that. One last thing, color should be put in there too, yes I know many colors are personal preference, but there are some obviously better than others. The scale should be something like this:
    Original Army Green/Camoflauge: +5
    Painted on Camoflauge: +3
    Yellow: +3
    Red: +2
    Green/Black/Dark Blue/White/Brown: +1
    Purple/light blue/light green/auqa:  -2
Paint Indestriquisable because covered by mud: +3
    Any Stripe : -1 each
Name of Jeep: +/- 1, depending on the name

I'm sick and tired of all these YJ owners who think they are better than us TJ (TrailJeep) owners.  They call us names because we paid too much or because we have newer vehicles.

Well I say a JEEP is a JEEP.  If you want to get technical a TJ has more/better articulation stock than a YJ.  It  foregoes leafs alltogether and uses springs and shocks which are much better off road.  We don't have to go SOA to achieve the flexibility needed to be a good trail rig.  One other thing the YJ is one model year behind the Tough Jeep TJ.  At least we have round headlights not those square junky ones.  Also a YJ is still a WRANGLER not a CJ you pricks.  A CJ, an MJ, an MB M38, MC M38 THOSE are real jeeps.  A WRANGLER is a WRANGLER whether a YJ or a TJ, It's still a WRANGLER.  So all those YJ owners who think they are better than TJ, just think,  4 years ago, the WRANGLER YJ was the only WRANGLER.  4 measly years ago, you guys were the yuppies/the rookies the wuzzies who had the late model JEEP.  It wasn't a CJx it was a WRANGLER and with SQUARE headlights. Come On!!   You guys must have felt it then... EVERYONE  not waving at you cuz you had the Young Jeep YJ.  And now since '97 when the new WRANGLER comes out, you say...  PHEWW WE'RE SAVED!! NOW WE CAN PICK ON THOSE GUYS.

I say a JEEP is a JEEP.  Whether a MB or a MC CJ or TJ it's all about what a jeep can do and how you do it in a JEEP.  True you see some young kid or some lowered Jeep and think... WHY??? but that's regardless of model year.  Some people just don't know.  IT'S A JEEP THING, YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND.   But I do, and when I see an older model jeep, yeah they get my propers (respect)  But a YJ, you could buy a YJ off a used car lot for 10-14 G's (California price).  I  would rather pay two grand more and have a new one I can customize MY WAY.

Whe n I buy a house then yeah, I'll try and locate and buy an old CJ or I'd really love a VJ2 or a VJ3 those really rock!.  I'd have time to do a frame off resto, get some good gears a nice lift etc etc etc.

In closing, I love ALL JEEPS and I try to help all JEEPERS.   Owning a Jeep doesn't make you a JEEPER.  Being a JEEPER you should understand that a JEEP is a JEEP!

My TJ has a 3" Pro Comp lift, 33" rubber, Warn winch, ABR air lockers, and lots and lots of war scars. With all this all the waves I get are from fellow TJ owners but no YJ or CJ guys. I follow the "Wave Rules" but get none in return. What does a guy have to do to get a wave?  You have a nice site. Thanks and keep the shiny site up.

IF I am the higher rated Jeep in the JWH and the lower rated vehicle does not initiate the wave, do I:
    A. Turn my nose up and ignore them.
    B. Flip 'em off.
    c. Shoot them.
    D. Turn around run them off the road and 'splain things to 'em.
    E. Accept that they are probably morons and continue on my way.
Any help you could provide would appreciaited.

Sincerely,

Man, Ive got to tell you I love your page. My father had a '82 Renegade and I have sooo many great memories in that great Jeep. Unfortunatly he did not catch the rust in time. He would try to repair it over and over again, but the damage was too much and he had to part with his beloved jeep. He went on to buy a wrangler but it wasnt the same. I am getting my license soon, and I cant even think of driving anything other than a jeep. I hope to get a cj-7. But basically all i wanted to say is that the spirit of the jeep, the "real" Jeep lives on in the youth of today and tomorrow.

The vehicle was hand built this summer from a clean spot in the garage. The axles came from a field in Missouri and were reguilt with the addition of a locker in the rear, in Detroit, Michigan. The dash and instruments came from a MI. trash pile of 1976 vintage. Top from Iowa, body and frame from Atlanta, GA., interior from Birmingham, AL. The V-8 is from a previously owned Jeep, the trans and steering column are from different 1986 vehicles. Put it all together, and it is the vehicle that I maneuver thru the streets of LA, and the San Gabriel mountains.

Never wave to square headlights or anything with the Jeep name on it built after 1986 (this was the year they stopped making jeeps and starting making wranglers). In order for a wave to take place between a real Jeep (CJ or Willys) and a Wrangler, the wave must be initiated by the Wrangler and must be done with said driver's head hung slightly in shame for driving a substandard Jeep. The wave should be returned with the understanding that even though they are driving a Wrangler the mere fact that they waved shows that the old school jeep SPIRIT is still alive and well.

Your website kicks ass. I use to think that I was crazy when I first got my Jeep because I told all my friends the wierdest things happens to you when you drive down the road: All other Jeep owners will wave at you. They all thought I was nuts so I said "hop in", and look who's laughing now. I had at least 4 other Jeep owners to help prove my point. I think they are a little jealous that there is no waving club with their vehicles. I love my Jeep, and wouldn't trade it for the world. Hey, I think us girls who drive lifted Jeeps should get at least 10 extra points or at least some added points if your vehicle is so high that you have to grab onto the steering wheel to get inside. Most people don't belive me that it is my vehicle, but I prove them wrong with how well I can handle if off-road. LIFE IS A BUMBY ROAD, JEEP ON.

OK, I just bought my first Jeep. A '99 sport - sprung for the 31" tires and corresponding axles, stayed w/the manual trans. I have had it up to the axles twice since I bought it in December 98. Both times, I managed to get myself out without a rescue. Maybe I should run the JWH score again after the spring and summer when I can get some more quality time in - and doubtless get into deeper off roading? I am hesitant to do too much modification with a brand new vehicle - (engine / trans - warranty you see?), but I am deeply wounded by the low JWH "36" score. I will have to try again later.

All waves should be out of respect for other Jeepers, not competition or hierarchy, but if the hierarchy must continue, TJ's aren't so bad, in fact, certain aspects are incredible for off-roading, with certain mods. YJ's are awesome, only if over sized tires are added. Okleys should be official Jeep-owner sun glasses, if you can get a Jeep, you can get Okleys. Besides, great for shielding off road sun glare!

I can't stop laughing! The Wave rules should be a standard feature in all new Jeeps!  As a Jeep salesman I try to teach the yuppies buying new Jeeps all the rules, but have never been absolutely sure of them myself until now.  When I invite the new Jeep owner on a Jeep Jamboree, they twinge at the thought of the first scratch or dent.  I try to tell them that battle damage is something to be proud of!! But coming out of their yuppie Explorers (we call them"Exploders" at the dealership, due to the fact that they were prone to catch fire the first few years) they don't know what fun true offroading can be! To most of my customers going "offroad" is running off the driveway.  I will recommend this site to all of my past and future clients. Maybe then they will learn the rules of Jeeping!!!   Thank you!  Fred Howard  Jeff Wyler Jeep, Cincinnati

I have never spent so much money on anything in my life and I have never once complained. I've never had a date with the "Jeep Thing" going on and they all resent my obssession with mine and say I can't afford it. "Buy something practical" they say.  LIKE WHAT, A SPRINT? What could be more practical for a Canadian girl to have than a CJ?  So what if I had to freeze my ass off for a few winters till I discovered the joys of the Chev heater blower motor. "But the body looks like hell" they say. So what that I used to be able to see the road through the floor. WHO THE HELL CARES, SHE RUNS GREAT! (Well, most of the time.) Maybe these idiots think it would be better if I had outrageous payments every month for a brand new prissy TJ under warranty instead. If I could only find an understanding attractive man that I could love (almost) as much as my Jeep I would be the happiest woman alive!  I wave, and am waved at (well, by everyone cuz all guys like an attractive chick in a short skirt driving a tough jeep with no doors) I never feel compelled to wave at the new Jeeps, sorry just don't like em and they would probably just think I was trying to pick them up anyway, I only want a real Jeep man!  I just want to pull those other guys over (who should know even better than the girls) and say "get your roof and doors off moron, you live in Saskatchewan where the summer is too short to not enjoy it properly!" Oh, sorry...I guess you wouldn't want your pretty interior to get wet or your hair messy. I think that I should make it my mission to inform every Jeeper and those "owners" out here the general rules and start by runnning off hundreds of copies from this site and sticking it on the windshield of every Jeep I see. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to vent!  Oh yeah, and if you happen to be a sexy, SINGLE, CJ-lovin' man, feel free to write me and maybe we can fling some mud together!

Just surfed on and love this page. This epitomizes the ownership of a Jeep. The Wave is something that I have always naturally practiced. I don't know what's up with city people who would rather stare or ignore fellow Jeepsters, but that's them. Who cares if you haven't built up your Jeep yet. You're still cool. If you see me, shaka bra and smile. Aloha! Now I have to add up my score. Those of you in the San Francisco Bay Area, this waves for you.

I live in Colorado, and I used to go play on the foothills of the western slope of the Grand Mesa and trail riding. Until I decided to go to Texas and visit my brother and play in that great Texas sand. Well, I cracked a head along the way out in the midle of nowhere. So I had to limp it through NM into Childress TX where my bro and I took his '79 CJ7 out to play. My '69 is down, but not out. I plan on putting a 400ci or a 454ci in her. My '69 scored a 27 and my brothers scored a 41. I think we both should have scored higher becouse we've done crazy stuff in both jeeps. You should put an "OH $%*@!!!!!" or, a "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!!!" catagory in.  KILLER!!!! site!

As a fellow Jeeper I'm somewhat surprised by this Hierarchy that you have come up with. Many Jeepers (myself included) start out with beat up $500 Jeeps at ages close to 16 in the hopes of becoming a full fledged Jeeper as an adult. They suffer through winters in a drafty soft top just to be able to say "I BELONG..." and say it with pride that they should. It is now 11 years later for me and things are going well. I now have a modified XJ and it serves my purposes better than my old one. It is up to us adult Jeepers to support and help those poor souls who, as of yet, are unable to upgrade. We should support and take all JEEPERS under our wings and help them grow. We must answer their un-ending questions, offer them our old used parts, and yes, stop and help even the trashiest Jeep on the side of the road in the city or lost in the trails. What is your basis for the scoring? How smart is it for a married man with two or three kids to load up a TJ or YJ with all kinds of roof and bumper racks in the hopes of getting all the gear to and from camp, just to have a "better scoring Jeep" according to you? Have you tried strapping a child seat to your roll bars? Not very bright is it. If you WERE going to score this point correctly, you would HAVE to take into consideration the day-to-day usage of that particular vehicle. If a stock Grand Cherokee and a totaly built, fully articulated, roll bared, and lockered CJ pull up side by side in New York City in the middle of a cold winter or a blazing hot summer, I would have to say the Grand would have the most points here with the elcosed cab and heat and Air. Don't you agree?
And give points for those with lesser driving skills because they have more damage done to their vehicles? Do you think that this promotes a "Tread Lightly" mentality or "Bash Through It and Get Those Cool Scars"?
I think you should re-think this through. It's great that you have so much enthusiasm for Jeeps, but we are all the same, just in different stages of it. I have to wonder just how old you are and how far in you've gotten, and what kind of Jeep was your first. Have you never suffered with an old Jeep? Do you not remeber the feeling? Have you ever been helped by a senior Jeeper?
I'll be the first to wave to that little 16 year old with the leaky, drafty soft top on a cold rainy winter's day and I'll take pride in doing so. For I've been there, and I know where he's going. I've watched the better rigs go by me and hoped they weren't laughing at my dream. Strong little souls those people have and we should make them feel proud. ANYONE can drive around in a great looking, heavily modified jeep of any kind, but it's those who start with nothing-like the old military issue- that make the real core Jeepers, but I suspect from your criteria that you know little about this area of Jeepers. Think about it, Fellow Jeeper. What EVER you have, howEVER you may need my help, young or old, you're still a Jeeper...I think...and I'll do what I can...think none the less of you....and wave...period.
Sincerely, Scott Tempesta

Just built an 1986 "JOOP" and gave it to our daughter for her sixteenth birthday, so I thougt it appropriate that I print out the Official Jeep Wave regulations so that she can get started on the right "wave", right off the bat. She has shared it with all the Jeep guys at her school (yeah, she's the only gal with a Jeep!), and we now have a whole new crop of Jeep Wavers in North Alabama.

I just ordered my first Jeep.  It will be about 1-1/2 months until it arrives.  I'm not sure I am going to make it until then. The brochure that the dealer gave me is by side at all times. It's like I'm addicted to crack or something, and whenever I need a fix, I start flipping through the pages drooling all over the place.  It helps.  My roomate thinks I'm crazy.  I can pretty much recite from memory any printed text or number on any page.  I go at night to the local Jeep dealerships and set down a lawn chair in front of the Wranglers and stare at them for hours.  When MINE comes in, I was thinking about moving my bed outside.  I can't stand the thought of someone else coveting MY Jeep.  It makes me sick.  I could go on and on about my affection for my not even acquired yet Jeep, but I need a fix.  ....Awesome web-site, and expect me to be back.  In the mean-time, I will be learning the JWH, MCSs, & EAs.

I think everyone should read this page! I was driving home the other night with a new paint job (mud) at about 11:30.  I stopped for gas and people could just tell that somewhere under all that dug up ground stood a powerful and expensive something... haha. The looks I got told me that they just don't get why I bought the Jeep.  A new friend of mine was with me and now wishes he didn't just lease a new Acura TL hehehehehe. I was brown with mud, the Jeep was brown (and black) with mud and he was green, more from envy than from the grass stains on his butt from the long hill incident.
I used to love all the things about the YJ that made other people cringe, but I have to admit that it is nice to drive in the lap of luxury AND be able to move more earth than a back hoe! :)

Awesome website.  There are a lot of "new" Jeepers that need to read this. I often give the wave to a passing Jeep, and it turns into the finger if I don't get a response.  I have put a lot of time and money into my Jeep, and I am always willing to shoot the breeze with a Jeeper looking for ideas.  For all the other pricks that can't even give a courtesy wave, hope to see them on the trail, broken.  Anyway, great site.

Kick @#% site. Glad you're helping keep the wave alive. My TJ (named Agamemnon) scored 38 when clean (almost never:) and 48+ right now (too lazy to count all the shrubs stuck on it). How about a point for naming the Jeep. names are important. 2 probs:
    1. Some of the new Jeep owners got it, but for the rest of you, if someone waves at you wave back!
    2. To the veterans, TJ's are Jeeps too! I can understand not thinking about the shiny new yuppiemobile, but modified (and muddy) TJ's deserve a wave too!

Love trails!!  Love Jeeps!!
I must add, I it quite strange to see so many people who like beat up Jeeps.  When I see that, I think "trailer trash". When I get a broken panel, or paint gash, I fix it and repaint it. That’s what most people with money do.  Anyway, thought the site was interesting, will tell others to come rate their ride.  You should make a separate rating score for those who care about their off-road machines.  One that doesn't give points for duct-tape, and leans more toward after market modifications, such as Steel horse or Warn, quality accessories!

I believe that there needs to be a section in the Jeep Wave about performing good deeds, i.e.:
    1. Towing NON 4x4 vehicles from clutches of nature & NOT bragging: +2 (each Deed, w/proof)

    2. Towing NON 4x4 vehicles from clutches of nature & bragging: +1 (each Deed, w/proof)

    3. Towing 4x4, NON Jeep vehicles from clutches of nature & NOT bragging: +2 (each Deed, w/proof)

    4. Towing 4x4, NON Jeep vehicles from clutches of nature & bragging: +4 (each Deed, w/proof)

    5. Towing Jeep from clutches of nature (if needed): MANDATORY!!!! (It's the Jeep Way!)

Well, I'll leave it in your hands. Thanks, Brandon.

P.S. My co-workers and fraternity brothers w/Jeeps have totally enjoyed the Jeep Wave score card. I plan to make a small copy to carry in my Jeep. Of course it will have to be waterproofed in laminate! (OIIIIO)

It's a '76 which is the first year of the '7, and it's the year I was born so it must have been destiny. I do uphold the wave at all costs, even with 31" tires and no power steering; but i have realized that alot of these new Jeepers don't know about it and it is a little discouraging when you're left hanging, especialy with a score of 59. I love my Cherokee!! Got 170K miles on it and still going. Also, it's kinda neat to see the same body style live on for 13 years.

Just bought this little dude, and I should have it up and running within the next six months.
Any info on parts and parts compatibility with other Jeep products would be much appreciated. I am interested in interchangeable parts between the DJ and CJ series.

Q: What, if any, retribution can be suffered by non-wavers from us - the responsible, common, nice guy JWer. Is there an acceptable retaliation that will punish them severly enough without landing said waver in the clink?

No top in the Southern California sun is fine, but I watch my uv-rays, so a hard top for me and my passangers is fine.
Air-conditioning is a added plus.
Great site, keep the dirty side down!

I thought this site was very funny and, being an owner of a heavily modified '79 CJ5 with a V-8, very flattering. I've been looking for websites similar to this, and am very glad I found this one!

Howdy, nice page. Why no points for beefy bumpers and light protectors? I'd also grant points for 'Mudsickles' on the inside of the windshield.
Here's how I scored the YJ, the MSC varies due to weather, but if it's over 70, the tops down giving me a 30 JWH.

When I first bought my Jeep, I noticed other Jeep-owners waving to me. Now I wave to all Jeeps that pass. I feel as if I have a bus driver relationship with them.

And I thought everyone had suddenly gotten friendly and they were waving at me just to be nice. But now that I think about it, they never waved before I had the Jeep. You're doing a great job getting people educated. Keep up the good work. But let's all be sincere in our wave. We wouldn't want those "other people" (the non-Jeepers) to think we're getting too snooty for our own good.

I feel bad for being so low on the hierarchy. Bummer, I guess I will just keep the hand up...except, I have never seen any other Jeep owners wave back. Maybe the Jeep is becoming as yupee as the explorer.
