Day Two was the most challenging of the three we spent in the desert, and we took a break for lunch at the historic Mormon Colorado River crossing for which the trail receives its name, "Hole In The Rock" (GPS N37°15.23' W110°53.71').

When Mormon settlers needed to cross the Colorado River, they widened a narrow passage in the rock and built a road while trying to get from Escalante to what is now called Bluff, Utah. When they reached the cliff, they had to blast a "hole in the rock" to get their wagons and supplies through to the river. What was expected to be a six-week trip for the settlers actually ended up taking six months.

We only had one minor trail-fix requirement on Wednesday; one of the group lost their steering stabilizer retaining nut. Someone in the party happened to have a replacement, and we were on our way again after only a short break.

At the end of the day, we took up camp in the same location as the first night, and enjoyed yet a second round of Frenchie's Famous Goulash (shown below). The group had more time the second night for campfire jokes and stories, and we took the opportunity to give away prizes. We even had awards to give to the most deserving of the bunch.
